Care Instructions

With proper care and maintenance our products are built to last a lifetime.

GENERAL CARE

Always follow any care instructions included with the specific product.

Products made from natural materials will have unique colour/surface variations.

Always use mild cleaning agents – never use harsh, chemical cleaning products.

To preserve the colour of the materials, avoid direct sunlight whenever possible.

Never place products close to heat sources.

Always protect surfaces against direct heat, humidity and strongly coloured items.

Unless items are explicitly approved for outdoor use, they are meant for indoor use and should never be used outdoors.

STEEL AND ALUMINIUM

We use powder coated steel, and in some cases, aluminium. Powder coated surfaces are harder and more durable than conventionally painted surfaces.

POWDER COATED STEEL AND ALUMINIUM
Wipe with a soft, dry cloth.

Avoid water. If you must, use a damp cloth and a small concentration of pH-neutral detergent such as dishwashing liquid. Wipe dry afterwards.

Avoid using harsh chemical, polish or oil treatments as they could damage or mark the surface. Solvents such as nail polish remover or turpentine will damage the surface. Don't use Handy Andy or detergents containing ammonia or bleach.

Use a soft cloth; don't use abrasive cleaning materials such as scouring pads.

Prolonged exposure to moisture could affect the surface finish, especially if the powder coating has been damaged.

Products are intended for interior use only, unless specified. Certain conditions apply to indoor use: please see powder coated metal with anti-rust treatment for more information.

POWDER COATED STEEL WITH ANTI-RUST TREATMENT

If you live at the coast where a powder coated product may be exposed to damp or salty conditions, or intend to use a powder coated product in a bathroom, kitchen or high traffic environment where it will be exposed to steam or water, we recommend an additional anti-rust treatment to protect against rust. In some cases we will also supply stainless steel fixings for these products.

Items that have been galvanized to minimize corrosion are suitable for sheltered outdoor use, but please note that rust may occur over time. We therefore do not recommend exposing the products to water over prolonged periods and advise you to store the products in a dry place during wet weather.

Prolonged exposure to harsh such can also affect powder coated surfaces which is why we recommend sheltered outdoor use.

Follow the same cleaning instructions for powder coated steel products.

WOOD

SOLID WOOD
Wood is a natural material – no two pieces of wood are the same – which is why there are no two identical pieces of wooden furniture. Wood is constantly changing, which means that its structure and colour evolve over time.

Our solid wood is FSC-certified which means that it is sustainably forested. We predominantly use ash and walnut.

Clean with a damp cloth and dry with a soft cloth.

For stubborn stains a light furniture cream or aerosol cleaner is recommended. Some products may change the colour of the wood. Test on the underside of a product when using a cleaning product for the first time.

Solvents such as nail polish remover or turpentine will damage the surface. Don't use Handy Andy or detergents containing ammonia or bleach.

Treatment, cleaning or sanding of the wood must always be done in the direction of the wood grain.

Wooden surfaces should not come into contact with sharp / hot / moist / wet containers or materials. Always protect wooden surfaces with coasters or mats.

Extended exposure to direct sunlight will cause wood to fade.

Changes in humidity will cause wood to shrink or swell. Under normal conditions, small cracks in solid wood are to be expected while extreme changes in humidity can cause warping, splitting and cracking. Regulate humidity where possible.

Light scratches and scuffs can be sanded out of solid wood surfaces – be sure to seal again with a sealant suitable for solid wood after sanding.

If you feel over time that the surface needs to be sealed again lightly sand with 400-grit sandpaper and seal with a sealant suitable for solid wood.

BIRCH AND PINE PLYWOOD

Plywood is more stable than solid wood and less movement will occur.

FSC-certified which means that it is sustainably forested.

Clean with a damp cloth and dry with a soft cloth.

Solvents such as nail polish remover or turpentine will damage the surface. Don't use Handy Andy or detergents containing ammonia or bleach.

PIGMENT BOARD

MDF board is non-toxic and is  produced with organic dyes and melamine resins.

FSC-certified which means that it is sustainably forested.

Eco Label Certification: Korea Eco-Label, California Air Resource Board and US EPA Compliant.

Product Certification: Korean Industrial Standards, Japanese Industrial Standards and CE Mark.

Clean with a damp cloth and dry with a soft cloth.

Wooden surfaces should not come into contact with sharp / hot / moist / wet containers or materials. Always protect the pigment board surfaces with coasters or mats.
Extended exposure to direct sunlight will cause the pigment board to fade.

CONCRETE AND STONE

CONCRETE
Concrete is a sturdy, relatively low-maintenance material.

Concrete bases are cast in batches using pigments, dyes and in some cases aggregates may be added. Therefore, each piece is different and due to the hand-cast nature of the process there are visible joints and air bubbles left behind from the process.

Dust regularly.

If needed, wipe with a damp cloth and a small concentration of pH-neutral detergent such as dishwashing liquid. Wipe dry afterwards.

Although sealed, concrete is still porous and might get stained by oils or liquids containing strong pigments.

The colour of concrete can change over time depending on environmental conditions.

Concrete with pigments cast into it can rub off onto hands and clothes – take care when moving these items. Wash hands with mild soap. Launder clothing immediately if pigment is transferred.

Concrete tabletops are sealed and will wear over time. If you see that the surface is showing signs of becoming porous in areas then ree-seal with a concrete sealer by following the supplied instructions.

MARBLE AND GRANITE

Stone is a natural material and no two pieces exhibit the same colour and patterning.

Our marble and granite tabletops have been sanded and polished to show off the stone’s natural beauty. The non-chemical polish leaves a satin-smooth finish which repels liquid and dirt.

Dust regularly.

If needed, wipe with a damp cloth and a small concentration of pH-neutral detergent such as dishwashing liquid. Wipe dry afterwards.
Do not allow liquids to dry on stone, as they may damage the surface. Avoid harsh and abrasive chemicals and corrosives.
To prevent ring marks, use coasters under glasses and any containers containing liquids. Always clean up spills immediately.
Be careful with hard or abrasive objects, as these may scratch the delicate surface of the stone.

CAESARSTONE

This material is highly durable, while having a smooth feel and textured expression.

Dust regularly.

If needed, wipe with a damp cloth and a small concentration of pH-neutral detergent such as dishwashing liquid. Wipe dry afterwards.

GLASS AND MIRRORS

RECYCLED GLASS
Because our glasses and lampshades are handmade and mouth blown, no two are exactly the same and small variations in size and form may occur.

Glasses are dishwasher safe, although we recommend hand washing as the design does not lend itself to being washed in a dishwasher.

Dust lamp shades regularly.

LABORATORY GLASS

Dust regularly.

Our vases are not dishwasher safe and should not be submerged in water.

Anything sharp or rough can scratch a glass surface.

TOUGHENED GLASS TABLETOPS

We use toughened glass to ensure safety.

For regular cleaning, use a soft, dry cloth. Finish by wiping with a dry, lint-free cloth.

Take care not to use any glass / mirror cleaning product on a powder coated surface.

Anything sharp or rough can scratch a glass surface.
Ensure that glass tabletops are securely positioned on their base. Remove glass tabletops when moving tables.

MIRROR GLASS

Use a soft, clean damp cloth to clean mirror glass.

Do not allow the edges of the mirror to remain wet for extended periods of time.

Do not use acidic or alkaline chemicals on the mirror, and never use abrasive cleaners/powders or steel wool.

For a more thorough cleaning, use commercial glass cleaners without ammonia or vinegar.

WOVEN GRASS

Dust with feather duster or soft cloth.

Avoid contact with liquids, if this happens dab dry with a cloth.

Don't use detergent on the weave.

Prolonged exposure to harsh sunlight could cause colours to fade.

CERAMICS

Our ceramics are hand thrown or CNC formed and no two are alike. The majority of our pieces fired to stoneware temperatures.

Handle with care, ceramic will chip or break if knocked or dropped.

Dust regularly and then wipe clean with a soft cloth.

TEXTILES

FABRIC UPHOLSTERY

Vacuum fabric as needed, using an upholstery attachment. Do not brush fabric or use a vacuum attachment with a rotary brush.

Remove wet stains by carefully dabbing with a lint-free cloth or sponge dampened with warm, detergent-free water.

To minimise fading, avoid placing your upholstered furniture in direct sunlight. Dark fabrics and natural fibers like cotton are most susceptible to fading.
An annual professional cleaning will keep your upholstered furniture looking its best.
Do not dry clean or machine wash cushion casings as it may damage the fabric, backing or stitching. For large or persistent stains, contact an in-home professional upholstery cleaning company.
For spot cleaning small stains, use an upholstery spot remover. Test the product first on a small inconspicuous area and then follow the instructions on the pack.
Replacement cushion casings are available. Please contact us to order.
FABRIC LAMPSHADE

Fabric lampshades can be replaced or re-covered if needed over time.

Dust regularly to avoid dust build up.

Clean by dabbing with washing powder foam and then wiping with a damp cloth.
Leave to dry away from direct sunlight.
Avoid prolonged sun or heat exposure as lampshade could deform.
Use a low-heat LED or CFL globe.

Transport a fabric lampshade in a box – its wire frame could beend if not packaged properly.

LEATHER UPHOLSTERY

Like wood, leather ages well. Over time, leather furniture changes with use and develops a patina that won't look the same as it does today, which is it’s unique appeal.

With top-quality leather, perfection is not flawless and has some subtle markings caused by the healed nicks and cuts that occur during the life of the animal. These natural markings give leather furniture unique beauty and character. The natural markings do not affect durability.

Vacuum or dust frequently with a clean, dry cloth.
Wipe clean with a damp cloth and dry with a clean, soft cloth.
If leather is soiled, it can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth using a lather of mild soap with lukewarm water. Dry with a soft cloth.
Do not spot clean leather as it will leave a mark; clean the entire surface.
CORK

To prevent chipping and cracking avoid contact with anything coarse or sharp.

Wipe regularly with a soft wet cloth.

Air dry.

ELECTRICAL

Proper care of electrical products is essential to ensure user safety.

Use a low-heat LED globe. We recommend using a top mirror globe lamp for best results.

Before cleaning be sure that the lampshade is not hot.
Not suitable for outdoor use.
Avoid contact with liquids.
Don’t use it if electrical components are damaged or loose.
Unplug product when cleaning or changing the globe.

MAINTENANCE AND MOVING FURNITURE

We recommend at least two people do the moving by lifting at opposite ends.

Use old blankets to protect the floor.

Don't drag furniture over the floor.
Once you’re done, re-tighten any bolts and screws before use.

WALL-MOUNTED INSTALLATION

Choose a sturdy fixing suitable for your wall (drywall, plaster or brick). Test it before hanging a product.

Before drilling into the wall, tape an open envelope below the spot to catch the dust.
