IN WORKING WITH SUCH A TRADITIONAL MATERIAL, WE WANTED TO INNOVATE BY EXPERIMENTING WITH PRODUCTION PROCESSES

Working with clay without getting our hands dirty is close to impossible but this was our goal. Our raw material was unfired bricks; we used modern manufacturing techniques to create high toleranced geometric shapes. This process allowed us to explore a variety of different shapes without the need for moulds.

Once cut, the pieces are glazed and fired to stoneware temperatures. The results are solid-feeling pieces that proudly proclaim their parents – bricks.

This collection is named after Springs, the city where the clay for these bricks is quarried which also boasts the largest number of small scale Art Deco design buildings in the world, outside of Miami, Florida.
